Introduction to music at Burlingame High School

The BHS Music Department band and choir classes are open to all BHS students and begin on the first day of school as part of the students’ regular class schedule.

The Band, The Orchestra, and Vocal Jazz are all directed by BHS Music Director Kyoko Yamamoto.

The BHS bands and Vocal Jazz entertain at home football games, pep rallies, community events, parades, graduation, and numerous concerts. As part of the music education curriculum, all band classes combine to form the Marching Band and Pep Band. In addition, the Band, Orchestra, and Vocal Jazz annually compete at California Music Educators Association (CMEA) Festivals.

Those enrolled in band and vocal jazz are also offered an opportunity to audition for Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble. Auditions are in the spring for the following school year.

Pizza My Heart Dinner Fundraiser

Save the date: 9/23/25 from 4-9pm. All you have to do is have dinner (take out or dine in) and 30 percent of the proceeds go the boosters! More details to come.

2025 Stanford Band Day - Saturday, September 13th

This is an optional event and not organized by the music boosters or BHS/District. Please arrange your student's transportation.

Join the Stanford Band for field rehearsal to practice the pregame and halftime shows, perform around the outside of the stadium to pump up the crowds, and rock out throughout a Stanford football game!

All band members (including directors!) are FREE and any family/friends who want to join may purchase tickets for $10 each in reserved seats next to the band.

Participants may claim their ticket and family/friends may purchase their ticket(s) by clicking here. You are welcome to forward this email to anyone interested in attending.

The schedule of the day includes the following:
1:00 pm - Performers Arrive
1:30 pm - Field Rehearsal
5:00 pm - The Walk
After the Walk - Dinner provided
6:45 pm - Line up to head into the stadium
7:30 pm - Kickoff

Home Football Games

The Pep Band plays at all home football games. Families who would like to attend, must have a ticket to enter. In lieu of individual tickets, consider buying a Family Pass from the Athletic Boosters for $100 (includes 2 adults & 2 pre high school students for football and basketball games). Concert Video!

Thank you Alex Karanov for producing the amazing video of our spring concert!!!! Alex has filmed all of the concert from every angle and has been editing this until 5:30am this morning!!! We had some tech issues with sounds but Alex made some adjustments so every soloists are heard regardless of those difficulties. Also, want to give another shoutout to Rohan Shah for great lighting!

CMEA Jazz Festival

Jazz Ensemble Receives a Unanimous Superior rating at the CMEA Jazz Festival!

Congratulations!! On Friday, January 31, the BHS Jazz Ensemble performed at the California Music Educators Association Jazz Festival and received a unanimous superior rating for their performance as well as sight-reading!
